Getting to KBFFI
The BLM (Bureau of Land Management) tends to close off directly driving onto the Lakebed, and prefers visitors to use the Perimeter Road to gain access to the Lakebed of various Access Points.
The Perimeter Road is a gravel road which follows the outside of the Lakebed and is actually a fairly decent road - provided there are no recent rains, which can make even the Perimeter Road a bit challenging.
Getting to the KBFFI site is easy though! Starting at the Visitors Center - where you will need to purchase your Pass ($15 per day, or if you're going to camp out for the entire Gathering, $30 - which covers 5 days). if you start your Odometer at Zero at the Visitor Center, you can use that as a reference to where you want to end up at. After that you will drive on Mountain View Road until you reach Colusa Road where you will turn Left. (This will be about 0.5 miles from the Visitors Center.)
Following Colusa Road down towards the Lakebed, it curves right and turns into Mirage Lake Road. You will drive this until your Odometer reaches about 5.8 miles. You will come up to a White metal post on your right that says Lakebed Access 7.
There is a Left Turn there - on your left you will see another metal post with a Yellow strip also saying Lakebed Access 7 on it. Turn here to drive down to where the Freedom Fly-in is Gathering.
Just before you get to the Lakebed edge, you will pass by a small structure - this is the BLM Restroom.
